Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: An Awami League leader named Jasim Uddin has been accused of demanding Tk 40 lakh to free the late freedom fighter’s land in Chakria, Cox’s Bazar. On Wednesday, February 22, in the afternoon, at a press conference at the District Freedom Fighters office, Omar Hassan, a late freedom fighter named Farid Ahmed, made such a complaint.

It is known that the accused Awami League leader, Jasim Uddin, took possession of the land of a deceased freedom fighter’s family in the Khutakhali area of the upazila in the dark of night. The nearly 20 acres of land were registered in the name of the late freedom fighter and his relatives but were taken over in the dark of night. When the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) complained about this in court, the court issued Section 144 on that land.
Later, the court ordered the release of the owners of the said land, but the accused Awami League leader, Jasim Uddin, and his associates are not heeding that order. The helpless family of freedom fighters tries to get rid of the occupation by compromising. Jasim demanded Tk 40 lakh from the victim’s family to get rid of the land’s possession. The owner, Jasim Uddin, said that the land will not be released even if it is one rupee less.
The victim, Omar Hasan, complained that they have about 20 acres of land in the Koyarkhali area of Khutakhali. This land was used for rearing cattle. Less than a month after the death of his father, the valiant freedom fighter Farid Ahmad, in September last year, Jasim Uddin and his accomplices occupied the land in the dark of night. When they tried to stop them after getting the news, they beat them and chased them away with death threats. Section 144 is issued there if resorted to in court.
He also said that after knowing the court’s instructions, Awami League leader Jasim and his associates made a general diary as they threatened to kill him. When an arbitration meeting was held to free the land, Jasim demanded Tk 40 lakh.
When trying to contact the accused, Jasim Uddin, on the phone, he did not give any reply.
“Jasim is one of the beneficiaries,” said multiple people on condition of anonymity. When the party in power does party politics, He committed various crimes under the umbrella of a powerful leader at the upazila level of the Awami League.
