DHAKA BUREAU: Former Information Minister and once influential leader of the BNP, Barrister Nazmul Huda, has passed away (innalillahi wainnillahi rajiun). He was declared dead at Square Hospital in the capital on Sunday, February 19, around 10 p.m. Office assistant of Nazmul Huda Kamrul confirmed this information and said that the doctor declared Sir dead around 10:30 p.m. Sir’s wife and two daughters are currently in the hospital.

Nazmul Huda joined the party during the formation of the BNP. BNP founder Ziaur Rahman took him to the party’s standing policy forum committee. After that, Khaleda Zia kept Huda on the BNP standing committee. He was a minister in Khaleda Zia’s government in 1991 and 2001. He was sometimes kicked out of the party and then returned.

However, in 2012, he severed ties with the BNP and formed a new party called the BNF. After he was expelled from that party, Abul Kalam Azad, the party’s founding chief coordinator, became an MP in 2014. After that, Huda formed two new political platforms, namely the Bangladesh National Alliance (BNA) and the Bangladesh Human Rights Party (BMP). After not succeeding in that, Nazmul Huda founded a new party named Trinamool BNP, the last registered political party with the Election Commission. He was the president of the party until his death.
