Dhaka Bureau: The Kalshi flyover in Mirpur of the capital will be opened on Sunday. Transportation in that area will be easier. It is a blessing for the people of Mirpur. The 2.34-kilometer flyover will be open to vehicular traffic after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurates it.This will be another milestone in the communication system for the citizens of the capital.
A public meeting has also been organized on the occasion of the inauguration of the flyover at Kalshi Balur Ground today at 10 a.m. If the flyover is opened, communication with Mirpur, Banani, Uttara, and the eastern part of the capital will be easier, the concerned party claimed.
According to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) sources, this project of the local government department was implemented by the Bangladesh Army’s engineering department. And DNCC has supervised the overall activities of the project. The DNCC will oversee the project after the inauguration.
The airport area can be reached in 10–15 minutes from Mirpur. Roads, footpaths, and drains have also been improved.
The construction period of the flyover is fixed until June 2023. However, the project was completed before the scheduled time. Mohammad Arifur Rahman, the supervising engineer in charge of DNCC’s Kalshi flyover, said that if the road adjacent to the flyover is widened, the people of Vasantek will greatly benefit.
1 thousand 12 crore 17 lakh taka has been spent on the construction of the flyover. 13.2755 acres of land have been acquired for project implementation.
The project includes construction of two footbridges with escalators, the expansion of one PC girder bridge, separate cycle lanes, six bus bays and passenger shelters, two-meter-wide footpaths (both sides) with RCC drains, non-mechanized vehicle lanes (both sides), and one public toilet. The flyover can be accessed from the Mirpur DOHS end and the ECB square side end. There is a chance to get down through the Kalshi Road end, but it is not possible to get up. In this regard, the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation said Atiqul Islam told the media that the metro rail has already started in Mirpur. If the Kalshi flyover is added, the traffic in the area will be easier.
