Own Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the armed forces are being developed to be capable of resisting any attack by external forces to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty.

The prime minister said, “We do not want war with anyone.” We believe in Bangabandhu’s foreign policy of “friendship with all, enmity with none.” But we have taken various steps to make the armed forces adequately capable of countering any attack by external forces.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while addressing the chief guest at a function organized on the occasion of the “10th Tigers Reunion” of the “East Bengal Regiment” at the Chittagong East Bengal Regimental Center (EBRC) on Thursday morning (February 16).

The prime minister said, “We want to transform our country into a peaceful country.” As a result, we have implemented a zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism and extremism.

He said our patriotic armed forces are always with the country and people. Our armed forces stand by them in any calamity, not only at home but also abroad.

Sheikh Hasina said that whenever an accident occurs in a country like a friend, our armed forces go there and participate in rescue operations and provide services. Besides, our armed forces peacekeeping forces are honorably performing their duties in the UN peacekeeping mission and are brightening the image of the country. He thanked everyone and mentioned the successful participation of Bangladesh Armed Forces members in the recent earthquake-affected areas of Turkey and Syria.

He said the East Bengal Regiment is very close to his heart. On August 15, 1975, his two younger brothers, freedom fighters Captain Sheikh Kamal and Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal, were members of this regiment.

Sheikh Hasina said, therefore, that attending the reunion of the East Bengal Regiment is painful for me on the one hand but joyful on the other.

On the occasion, a sharp contingent of the regiment gave the national salute to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister took the salute and inspected the parade in an open jeep. At that time, Army Chief of Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed was with him. Later, the Prime Minister also witnessed colorful cultural programs. Source: Bass
