Dhaka Bureau: Railway tickets should be purchased through the National Identity Card (NID) system so that one’s ticket cannot be used by other passengers. Besides, if the NID of the ticket-carrying passenger does not match, he will be accused of traveling without a ticket and fined. This decision will be effective March 1.
Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan gave this information in a press conference at the capital’s “Rail Bhawan” on Wednesday (February 15).
The railway minister said that Bangladesh Railway is going to include three services in the ticketing system to stop the black market for tickets and ticketless travel. which will be effective March 1. These three services are: (1) the ticketing system of railway intercity trains through NID verification (2) the implementation of POS (point-of-sale) machines; and (3) the online refund of online ticket purchases.
Rules to be followed for ticketing:
1) Passengers between 12 and 18 years of age should purchase tickets with their parents’ NID.
2. Foreigners will register by providing their passport number and uploading a passport photo.
3. No passenger can purchase an intercity train ticket without registration after successfully verifying their NID, passport, and birth certificate.
4. Every passenger must carry a photocopy of his or her NID, birth certificate, passport, or photo ID card while traveling.
As a result, if the identity card does not match the information printed on the ticket, the passenger will be accused of traveling without a ticket.
Then, according to the prevailing law of Bangladesh Railways, TTERA can fine passengers without tickets. At the same time, passengers can pay tickets online from home.
In this case, a passenger has to log into the Rail Seva app or the railway ticketing web portal and go to the ticket refund option with his own ID and give the relevant information. After verifying the information from the railway ticketing system, if the information is found to be correct, the intercity train tickets will be refunded to the passengers.
