Dhaka Bureau: Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sh M Rezaul Karim has urged to continue the production of livestock sector even in the ongoing global crisis.

The minister made this call to the livestock sector stakeholders in the chief guest’s speech at the workshop on producer group activation and livestock farmer field school management under the Livestock and Dairy Development (LDDP) project implemented by the Directorate of Livestock at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh Auditorium in the capital on Wednesday (November 2).

At this time, the minister said that the stagnation caused all over the world due to the terrible crisis of Corona and the subsequent Ukraine-Russia war should not disrupt the indomitable and courageous march of Bangladesh. The production of the livestock sector cannot be disrupted in any way during the global crisis. It should be remembered that there is no negligence anywhere in the production. In spite of having all kinds of natural resources in Bangladesh, it should be kept in mind so as not to face difficult situations. Keeping the revolutionary changes in the livestock sector, this sector should be enriched from generation to generation. Besides, the quality of this sector should also be improved. The sustainable development of this sector should be worked on.

He also said that livestock is a major sector for the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to move forward. LDDP project is related to production of milk, eggs and meat from this sector. If the production of milk, eggs and meat is not enriched, there could be a shortage of a large portion of food. We were in danger of food shortage. Economic empowerment of marginalized people is increasing due to increase in production of livestock sector. They become entrepreneurs and become financially independent. Women, widows, poor, helpless, unemployed all joined together to form the producer group of LDDP project. As a result, there is a radical change in rural life financially.

At this time, the minister also said that there has been great success in the livestock sector with the collective efforts of the field level officials. They are the key to success and implementation of all plans in the livestock sector. Field level officers should be careful that project funds are not misused. Livestock sector should be pursued with the aim of making it more prosperous. Those involved in this sector have to ensure maximum service round the clock.

The minister also said that today Bangladesh is self-sufficient in meat and eggs. We are close to self-sufficiency in milk too. If this could not be achieved, the demand for sacrifice could not be met until cattle arrived from India-Myanmar at the time of sacrifice. Today we can show the world the revolutionary changes in the livestock sector. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always encouraged the development projects of this sector.

He said that there is a huge demand for Bangladeshi meat in the international arena. Demand for meat is coming to our country from many countries of the world. Keeping this in mind, disease-free livestock zones are being created to supply life-free meat. Quality control laboratories of international standards have been set up in the country. So that we do not face any harmful conditions in meat export.
