Chakaria (Cox’s Bazar) Representative: A Hindu family’s house was attacked and looted in the name of implementing the judgment of the village court. At that time, they demolished some walls of the house with a big hammer. The Hindu family alleged that cash, gold and valuables were also looted. Baraitli UP chairman Jamaat leader Chalekuzzaman, UP member Jubo League joint convener Kaichar Uddin and Atiq Ullah led the incident. Last Thursday from 3 to 5 pm in Hindupara village of Ward No. 2 of Baraitli union of upazila.
After receiving a 999 call, Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer JP Dewan and Police Station Officer Chandan Kumar Chakraborty rushed to the spot.
In this incident, there is extreme fear and anger among the people. Meanwhile, fear has arisen among Hindu families as no case has been filed even after four days of the incident. They sought the administration’s intervention as they feared another attack.
Home owner Milton Kanti Dey said, I am a truck driver by profession. Spending some kind of day with the family. His wife went to pray at the temple last Thursday afternoon on February 09. I also stay in Patia upazila for professional work.
He further said that his younger brother Sentu Kanti de Baraitli filed a complaint in the Union Parishad village court claiming ownership of the house. Chairman Chalekuzzan and his ward member Kaichar Uddin gave a one-sided verdict against me with financial benefits. Last February 09 around 3 pm in the name of implementation of the verdict, they vandalized the house with a hammer and broke the walls of the brick house and occupied three rooms of younger brother Sentu. At that time, they broke the almirah and looted Tk 2 lakh 17 thousand in cash, three bags of gold and valuables. After calling 999, a police team from Harbang police outpost reached the spot and rescued my wife and children from Jinmidsha.

Officer-in-charge of Chakaria police station Chandan Kumar Chakraborty said that the police were sent to the spot after receiving information from Hindupara of Baraitali Union. Later, the police rescued the woman and child of the family. Two brothers have a dispute over the house. When asked whether he can implement the judgment of the village court by vandalism, he said that Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer can say it well. However, the victims have not filed any complaint yet. Legal action will be taken on written complaint.
