Dhaka Bureau: The last day to submit nomination forms for the country’s 22nd presidential election is Sunday, February 12.
But no candidate has taken the nomination form yet. However, on Saturday (February 11), the election commission officials said that the nomination form may be collected from the ruling party, the Awami League.
EC Joint Secretary SM Asaduzzaman said that no nomination had been made by any party in the presidential election. Since the last day for submitting nominations is next Sunday, nothing can be said now.
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced the presidential election schedule at the Agargaon polling house on January 25. As per the announced schedule, the nomination papers can be submitted at the CEC office until 4 p.m. on February 12. Nomination papers will be selected beginning at 10 a.m. on February 13 and will be accepted until 4 p.m. on February 14.Polling will be held at Sangsad Bhawan on February 19 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The presidential election will be conducted by the Chief Election Commissioner, who is the “Election Officer” of the election. Nomination papers should be submitted at the election officer’s office (the Chief Election Commissioner’s Office during office hours). If the number of candidates does not exceed one, he will be declared elected unopposed. And if there is more than one candidate, the vote will be held according to the rules in the session room of the Parliament.
