Dhaka Bureau: “The 12th National Parliament election will be held in December this year. That’s how Awami League is preparing”. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said this after a joint meeting organized at the party’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital this Friday (February 10).
This joint meeting was held with the presidents and general secretaries of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League and allied organizations. Obaidul Quader, general secretary of the party, presided over it.
Criticizing BNP’s ‘Padayatra’ program recently to demand democracy, he said, BNP has held democracy hostage at home. Those who hold democracy hostage at home, how will they establish democracy in the country?
He said, they are so arrogant for the country’s democracy, why there is no democracy in their house. We don’t get the answer. We don’t get the answer why seven clauses were removed from their party constitution. Article 7 states that if a person is found to be corrupt, he cannot become the leader of BNP.
General Secretary of Awami League said that BNP is walking on the path of conspiracy to oust the government after failing in the movement. In such a situation there is no way to refrain from politics.
Seeing the program of BNP, Awami League is carrying out a counter program, in response to the statement of BNP leaders, Obaidul Quader said that it is an election year. We have already said that we will be in the field of politics throughout the year. We are following that program. There is no contradiction here. They held a rally in Dhaka, we held a rally in Savar. So how is the counter program?
He said, we wanted competition with BNP from the beginning and did not want confrontation. So I am saying that the government cannot be changed in any way without elections. We do not want conflict with BNP, we want competition. Awami League wants to compete with them in the next election.
The general secretary of the party announced to hold a general meeting in Mymensingh on March 11 and Barisal on March 18. He also announced the party rally in every union.
