Dhaka Bureau: Canada plans to welcome 500,000 new permanent residents by 2025. Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said on Tuesday (November 1) that the government is looking at increasing immigration to the country over the next two years to deal with labor shortages. This information was reported in a Reuters report.

According to the report, Canada has released its immigration level plan for 2023 to 2025. The country aims to welcome 465,000 new immigrants by 2023. Which will increase to 485 thousand new immigrants in 2024. Canada will welcome 500,000 immigrants in 2025.

Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said in a statement that this year’s immigration level plan will help businesses find the workers they need. In doing so, Canada will fulfill its commitment to help people fleeing violence and war in their own countries.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has ramped up immigration plans since taking office in 2015. The country is on track to assist nearly 431,000 newcomers this year.

Large numbers of Canadians are now retiring and the most skilled workers are emigrating. As a result, the business condition of the country is not good now. The country is struggling with acute labor shortage.

Especially in industries like skilled trades and healthcare. In August, there were 958,500 vacancies in Canada. Many of the unemployed don’t have the skills to fill those open positions or don’t live in the right areas of the country.

The new targets will increase the number of economic migrants by around 1300 between 2023 and 2025. Relatively small regional programs in provinces and territories outside urban centers will help to grow.
