Panchagarh Correspondent: With the slogan “Prime Minister’s directive will make Bangladesh smart,” the northernmost district of the country, Panchagarh, has entered the cashless era after Dhaka, saying goodbye to analog transactions in favor of digital transactions.

Through this, this district on the northernmost border of the country has been added to Smart Bangladesh. Citizens of 43 unions and 3 municipalities in the district will get this service from now on by accessing the uniontax.gov.bd website from home.

By paying money through mobile banking, users will receive 20 services, including Union Pacific holding tax, inheritance certificate, birth and death certificate, citizenship and character certificate, marital and unmarried certificate. You will also receive the receipt for the deposit in cash. As a result, on the one hand, the revenue collection of the government will increase; on the other hand, along with reducing the harassment, the desired service will be provided quickly.

Tentulia Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Sohag Chandra Saha works as the founder of this digital transaction service. Panchagarh District Commissioner Zahurul Islam is the advisor for this program.

Earlier, Divisional Commissioner Sabirul Islam inaugurated the first phase of this cashless service in Tirnihat Union Parishad of Tentulia Upazila on January 6. With this, online service users are very happy to get 20 services very easily.

The service users say that their suffering has been greatly reduced through this service. You used to have to work for the council and pay a fixed fee to get services. He no longer has the option of paying online.Fast service is available by depositing fees through online mobile banking at the right time.

Nasreen Akhter (43) of Tiranihat Union said, “I have come to get the birth certificate for my child.” I paid the government fee very easily online and got the paper in quick time. I also received the receipt for the deposit. The cashless system is hassle-free.

Minjah Ali (65), of the Ajijangarh area of Tetulia Sadar Union, said, “I came to the Union Parishad to get my daughter’s citizenship certificate.” After I went to the digital center after work, I deposited the money through cashless and got both the receipt and the certificate. We took one more step towards a smart Bangladesh. I thank the prime minister.

However, the entrepreneurs of Union Parishad’s digital center have expressed their delight at being able to provide services via mobile banking quickly and without the use of cash via online.

Hamida Akhtar, the digital entrepreneur of Tirunihat Union Parishad of Tetulia Upazila, said that every day, service receivers are coming from different parts of the union to take advantage of cashless services. I am also happy to provide them with 20 services online very easily by paying money through mobile banking. There is no longer a problem like before.

In the last financial year 2019-20, the online service was introduced experimentally in Tentulia upazila, but this year, after receiving approval for the cashless service, the service first started in Tirniihat Union of Tentulia. Cashless service has been added to 43 unions in the whole district, including seven union parishads in the upazila. Through this service, the harassment of the recipients has reduced, and direct revenue is being collected in the government sector, said the UP chairmen.

Tirunihat Union Parishad Chairman Alamgir Hossain of Tetulia Upazila said, “There was a time when there was a bad name against the Union Parishad chairmen for embezzlement.” Cashless transactions are no longer in disrepute. We strive to provide hassle-free services to the common people.

After the launch of the digital cashless union service, payment of the service fee through the digital payment gateway is directly credited to the union parishioner’s bank account. As a result, there is no chance of misappropriating the money of the Union Pacific. The service recipient does not need to come to the Union Plaza to receive the service. As a result, this initiative has a major socio-economic impact. The software has gained popularity on both ends, with the service provider Union Pacific as well as the service receivers.

Tentulia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sohag Chandra Saha said that through this service, the main goal is to deliver the desired service to the common people. We are working with this goal in mind. I hope the cashless service will reach the whole country soon.

Deputy Commissioner Zahurul Islam said that the government is not taking the service to the people, but the government is taking the service to their doorstep. The goal set by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is to build the smart Bangladesh of 2041. We are working to fulfill that. As Panchagarh is the first district in the country (parliamentary seat no. 1), this cashless service has been introduced in Panchagarh. The country has taken a step forward in building a “smart Bangladesh.”

The cashless initiative has spread from one union in Tentulia upazila to 43 unions in Panchagarh district. So far, about 56,000 users have taken this service online. Piloting of a digital and cashless union service system has been completed in Tentulia Upazila. It can be implemented in union parishads, municipalities, and city corporations across the country through the Local Government Department of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, stakeholders said.
