Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the construction of the country’s first underground metro rail. It will be inaugurated at 11 a.m. on Thursday (February 2) at the Purbachal New Town Project area.
According to project information, a 20-kilometer subway line from the airport to Kamalapur will be inaugurated. This route can accommodate up to 8 lakh passengers per day.52 thousand crores of rupees will be spent on the construction of this subway. The Japanese government owes 39,450 crores.And the remaining amount will be met with government funds.
The implementation period of this project is from September 2019 to December 2026.
According to Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) sources, the construction work of these six metro rails will be completed in three phases by 2030. In the second phase, the construction of the MRT Line-5 Northern Route will be completed by 2028. In the third phase, construction of MRT Line-5: Southern Route, MRT Line-2, and MRT Line-4 will be completed by 2030.
