Dhaka Bureau: The metro rail route, which has brought a revolutionary change in the communication system of Bangladesh, is now being built underground. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially inaugurate this construction on Thursday (February 2).
This 20-kilometer underground metro rail route will be constructed from the airport to Kamalapur. This is the first underground trip on Metrorail.
The Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), Man Siddique, said this in a press conference organized at the head office of the company in Ramna, the capital, on Tuesday (January 31).
Stating that the subway line is being constructed in view of Dhaka’s population and reality, he said, “On February 2, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will announce the inauguration of the subway construction work at the Purbachal New City Project and Rajuk Commercial Plot in Narayanganj Rupganj and will unveil the plaque.” A reconciliation rally will also be held at this time.
The subway is under the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT-1) project. It will be implemented by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
In the meantime, DMTCL has signed an agreement with the contractor for the construction of the metro rail depot in Pitalganj, Narayanganj. The total cost of this project is estimated at 52 thousand and 561 crores. The Japanese debt is worth 39 thousand 450 crores.And the remaining amount will be met with government funds.
Mentioning that 92.9725 acres of land have already been acquired for the construction of the subway, M.A. Siddique said, “This project will be completed in 2026.”
MAN Siddique said that the surrounding buildings will not have any problem during the construction of the subway. He said, ‘The soil will be dug through a robotic machine called TVM, which is silent. Besides, there will be water drainage system in subway station. After the completion of the construction work, a train with eight coaches will arrive at the platform every two and a half minutes. As such, work is ongoing with the plan.
According to project sources, the second metro rail will be a combination of aerial and underground routes. 31.24 km of MRT Line-1 will be constructed on two routes. Among these, the Metrorail will run underground from Uttara and the airport to Kamalapur.It is 19.87 kilometers long.
There will be total 12 stations on this route. These are – Airport, Airport Terminal-3, Khilkhet, Yamuna Future Park, New Bazaar, North Badda, Badda, Hatirjheel, Rampura, Malibagh, Rajarbagh and Kamalapur.
And the new Bazar station on the Purbachal route will be underground. Following that, it will be 11.36 kilometers by air from New Bazar to Pitalganj in Purbachal’s Narayanganj.There will be nine stations on this route.
These are New Bazaar, Jamuna Future Park, Bashundhara, Police Officers Housing Society, Mastul, Purbachal West, Purbachal Centre, Purbachal East, Purbachal Terminal and Pitalganj Depot.
The implementation period of this project is from September 2019 to December 2026. If built, it will be capable of transporting eight lakh passengers per day beginning in 2026.
