Bashir Ahmed, Bandarban Representative: Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Md. Ashraf Uddin visited the Machang house under construction for the landless and homeless, a gift of the Prime Minister on the occasion of Mujib Centenary in Jamchari Union of Bandarban Sadar Upazila.
Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Md. Ashraf Uddin Mujib visited the Jamchari Union of Bandarban Sadar Upazila and visited the Machang houses under construction in the 4th stage as a gift from the Prime Minister for the landless and homeless on the occasion of centenary.
The Divisional Commissioner said, earlier when Panka Ghar was constructed in Bandarban district and this time Machanghar is being built in accordance with the tradition and culture of the hilly area in view of the request of the District Commissioner, 2 lakh 55 thousand 670 Taka is being spent on the construction of each Machanghar.
He also said that because of the current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, many landless and homeless people in the country are having a headache and when the construction work of these under-construction machanghars is completed, many families will find their address.
Deputy Commissioner Yachmin Parveen Tibriji said, based on the needs of the local people and the opinion of the local people’s representatives, the proposal to build these machanghars was sent to the Prime Minister’s office. In view of this proposal, a delegation from the Prime Minister’s office after visiting Bandarban took into consideration the feasibility of constructing Machanghar and approved the matter.
He also said that the initiative of constructing machang houses instead of semi-finished houses for small households is widely appreciated, the people of remote areas are preferring machang houses over semi-finished houses as they can store daily necessities including rearing domestic animals under the machang. Disaster tolerant and eco-friendly Machang houses have unlimited opportunities for light and air movement.
Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Md. Ashraf Uddin, Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Yachmin Parveen Tibriji, Local Government Department Deputy Director Md. Lutfur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Sajia Afroz, Executive Magistrate Rajeev Kumar Biswas, Civil Surgeon Dr. Nihar Ranjan Nandi, Sadar Upazila Project Implementation coordinator Md. Jahangir, former president of the press club Monirul Islam Manu, chairman of Jamchari Union Parishad Kasing Shai Marma and senior officials of various government departments were present.
According to the Bandarban district administration, under the house construction project for landless families, a total of 230 Machang houses are being constructed in Bandarban in the 4th phase, of which 9 are currently in Sadar upazila, 1 in Alikdam, 15 in Naikxyongchari, 45 in Rowangchari upazila, 15 in Lama upazila, 100 in Ruma upazila and In Thanchi upazila, the work of 45 Machanghar Nimarna is going on. And after the completion of the Machang houses, the house keys and land deeds of the Prime Minister’s gift will be officially handed over to the house owners.
