Own Correspondent: Zakir Hossain has been sent to jail in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) case of embezzling Tk.
Chittagong Senior Special Judge on Monday. The court of Begum Zebunnesha gave this order. Earlier, he was arrested from Comilla on January 16.
Zakir is the former Chairman of Pirjatrapur Union Parishad of Burichong Upazila in Comilla and the owner of Zakir Enterprises. He is the Joint General Secretary of Burichong Upazila Awami League.
Comilla deputy director of ACC Fazlul Haque said that Zakir Hossain got the tender of port connecting road of Chittagong City Corporation by forging the documents of contractor company Rana Builders. Against that, he took a loan of Tk 47 crore from Comilla branch of UCBL Bank. But Zakir embezzled the entire amount without paying the bank loan despite cashing the check of the bill received against the work.
On the other hand, leaving the work of the City Corporation unfinished caused public suffering. An additional Rs 7 crore was spent to complete the work by re-tendering.
According to Duduk sources, on May 10, 2022, ACC filed two cases against Zakir Hossain and eight people at the integrated district office of Chittagong. Zakir Hossain was arrested during the investigation of the two cases.
