Leader of Hizb ut Tahrir in disguise for 11 years

Dhaka Bureau: RAB has arrested Touhidur Rahman alias Touhid (31), the leader of the banned militant organization Hizbut Tahrir. RAB said that he is one of the officials of the invitation and finance department of that organization.

On Saturday (January 21), a team of RAB-2 from Jatrabari area of the capital raided Jatrabari police station area and arrested him. RAB said on Sunday that the arrested Towhid is the son of Tofazzal Hossain of Gopalpur police station in Tangail district.

According to RAB, Tawhid was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment by the Anti-Terrorism Tribunal. Besides, he had been hiding for the past 11 years under various guises, avoiding the attention of the law enforcement agencies and carrying out the activities of the militant organization.

RAB also said that Tawheed Hizbut Tahrir had been conducting anti-state activities by distributing leaflets and posters by holding conspiratorial meetings against the government. Besides, he used to encourage young generation including students of Madrasas and schools in militancy.
