Brahmanbaria is in conflict over trivial matters

Brahmanbaria Correspondent: In Ashuganj Upazila of Brahmanbaria, a day-long clash between two sides has created a tense situation in the area. Residents are in fear. As of writing this report at around 11:15 pm, additional police have been deployed to avoid further clashes.

This incident took place in Durgapur village of Durgapur union of the upazila on Wednesday (January 18) morning. Durgapur Union Parishad (UP) chairman and members of upazila again clashed, at least half a hundred were injured on both sides. Around 40 shops and houses were vandalized and set on fire.

At one stage of the dispute over the rent, there was a clash between Durgapur Union Parishad (UP) chairman Russell Mia and Union Parishad (UP) member Mizan Mia’s group on Friday and Saturday last Friday and Saturday.

Due to this incident, the people of the chairman and members’ groups clashed again on Wednesday morning. At least 50 people from both sides were injured in the clash. Among them, three people, including one from the Mizan member’s group, have been sent to Dhaka in a critical condition. During the clashes, 13 shops in the local market were set on fire and around 27 houses and shops were vandalised. Later, the fire brigade personnel came and brought the fire under control.

Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Obs) Zainal Abedin said that additional police have been deployed from Ashuganj police station to the spot after getting information about the clash.

According to the police and local sources, last Friday evening, the schoolboy Rimon came to Durgapur village from the railway gate of Ashuganj Upazila Sadar in the district. At that time, CSG driver Ruhul Amin demanded additional 10 taka more i.e. 30 taka fare instead of 20 taka. At that time, the incident took a different direction when CNG was pushed on Rimon by the schoolboy during the argument. CNG driver Ruhul Amin beat Rimon.

Later, schoolboy Rimon reported the matter to their group leader Mizan member. The Mizan member went to CNG driver Rahul Amin’s house to inform Durgapur Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Russell Mia, the leader of his group. Enraged by this, the chairman’s men attacked the Mizan Mia member.

On Friday night, the group of Mizan member and the chairman’s group clashed after receiving this news. At least 20 people were injured.
