Gazipur Correspondent: A businessman named Rabiul Islam (40) has died due to police torture in Gazipur. In this incident, on Wednesday (January 18) at 9 a.m., locals are protesting on the Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Tangail highways.
Rabiul is a resident of Bhogra Bypass Guava Garden area of Gazipur metropolis. He is a yarn merchant by profession. Locals said that Basan police arrested four people last Saturday night on the charge of gambling with bitcoins on mobile phones. The next day, the three were released, but the police detained businessman Rabiul Islam at the police station.
On Tuesday night, a group of police from Basan police station went to the businessman’s house and got a signature on a white paper from his wife. At night they came to know that Rabiul had died. When the matter came to light in the morning, the angry locals blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway and then the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway with sticks.
At one point, locals set fire to four motorcycles on the highway. Widespread vandalism at Bogra bypass junction.
Regarding the incident, Basan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Malek Khosru Khan said that locals are vandalizing and protesting on the streets based on a rumour.
