Banskhali Correspondent: The commercial production of the new power plant of SS Power Plant, the country’s largest 1320 MW coal-based power project built by the private sector in Banskhali, Chittagong, has started. Through this, 1224 megawatts of electricity has been added to the country’s national grid.
On Saturday (January 14), the electricity supply started with a formal ceremony organized at SS Power Plant (Thermal) Power Project. Morshed Alam Khan, Chief Engineer of Power Grid Company Bangladesh (PGCB) and Chief Engineer of Power Grid Company Bangladesh (PGCB) connected with the national grid by switching on. However, the commissioning will start from next Monday to go to the main power generation. In April, electricity will be provided to the government by going to the main power generation.
SS Power Plant Project Director Dipankar Majumdar said the coal-fired supercritical thermal power plant energizes the plant’s 400 kV gas-insulated switchyard and receives back-feed power from Bangladesh Power Grid Company (PGCB). By this, 1224 MW of electricity has been connected to the national grid at 1:56 PM.
He also said that the construction of this power plant has already achieved more than 94 percent progress. The main construction activities of the plant have already been completed. However, even though it is coal-based, this power project will not cause any harm to the environment. This project is a huge achievement and milestone for Bangladesh and S Alam Group.
Note that in 2016, an agreement was signed between Power Development Board (PDB) and SS Power to implement this largest private sector power project. At this time, the agreement regarding electricity purchase and sale was also signed. The agreement states that for 25 years, PDB will buy all the electricity generated at this plant. SS Power One Limited Company is a joint venture between Bangladeshi major industrial group S Alam Group (70% shareholding) and China’s Sepco Three (30% shareholding). Commercial production date is May 31, 2023. Project cost is US$ 2.506 billion, loan amount is US$ 1.782 billion, equity amount is US$ 724.678 million, foreign currency invested in direct benefits from the project is US$ 2012 million, loan amount is US$ 1782 million, The equity amount is 230 million US dollars, the average human employment is 5000 people in the construction phase, the average 1200 people in the production phase.
