Dhaka Bureau: At the beginning of the 21st session of the Jatiya Sangsad and the first session of the new year, the Speaker nominated the presidium. They are – Ramesh Chandra Sen (Thakurgaon-1), AKM Shajahan Kamal (Laxmipur-3), Yusuf Abdullah Haroon (Comilla-3), Kazi Feroz Rashid (Dhaka-6) and Salma Chowdhury (Women’s seat-34). In the absence of the Speaker or the Deputy Speaker, he shall preside over the sittings of the Parliament.
Then, before the President’s speech, Law Minister Anisul Haque moved the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022 (Ordinance, 22 (Ordinance No-1, 2022)).
Former minister ABM Golam Mostafa, former state minister Shah Mohammad Abul Hossain, Zafrul Islam Chowdhury, former MP Dr. Alauddin Ahmed, former opposition party whip Mosiur Rahman, former MP SM Farooq, Shajahan Khan, Mahbubur Alam, office assistant working in the Parliament Secretariat, and some others were condoled.
Awami League’s parliamentary deputy leader will be nominated in this parliamentary session. The post became vacant after the death of Awami League presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury.
There is a constitutional obligation to convene the next session within 60 days after the end of a session. The 20th session of the Parliament ended on November 6.
According to sources, a total of 17 bills may be raised in the 21st session. Of these, at least seven to eight bills may be passed. There are 10 bills that were not passed in the last 20th session. The law wing said that seven new bills have been submitted.
