According to the constitution, the next election will be: Prime Minister

Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the upcoming elections will be held according to the country’s constitution.
He said this when four members of Parliament of the British All-Party Parliamentary Group came to meet him at the Prime Minister’s office on Wednesday (January 4). After the meeting, the Prime Minister’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim informed the journalists.
Sheikh Hasina said that the Election Commission is very independent in the country. We follow your Westminster democracy. We have no problem when election observers come.
The Prime Minister mentioned that Awami League as a political party has a long tradition of fighting for the restoration of democracy from military rulers in the past. Military rulers used guns to seize state power and patronize politics by forming political parties.
Sheikh Hasina urged the British parliamentarians to take initiatives to stop the Russia-Ukraine war.
He said that countries like Bangladesh are suffering in many ways as a result of sanctions and counter-sanctions.
The head of government said that food grains, essential items and edible oil used to come from Ukraine. But the import of these items is hampered due to war. As a result the prices of these things are increasing.
The Prime Minister urged UK entrepreneurs to invest in 100 Special Economic Zones across the country.
He said, we will welcome UK investment there.
British MPs expressed satisfaction with the unprecedented infrastructure development of Bangladesh. They praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for this development.
The press secretary said that they particularly appreciated the development of connectivity including Metrorail, Padma Bridge and Bangabandhu Tunnel.
Members of parliament think that these infrastructures will be very helpful in the development of Bangladesh.
Referring to Britain as the development partner of Bangladesh, they said that Britain wants to work for the development of Bangladesh.
They mentioned that Bangladeshi expatriates in UK are very hard working and they continue to make special contribution to British economy.
They also said that UK will work with Bangladesh on climate change issue.
Ihsanul Karim said that the British MPs also discussed the next general election of Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister appreciated British support to Bangladesh on climate change issues. He said the government is serious about the issue of climate change and has started adaptation and mitigation programs with its own resources.
In this context, he said, Bangabandhu initially started the process by planting trees in coastal areas and building multi-purpose cyclone shelters by training 75,000 volunteers. Source: BSS
