Crime Desk: Due to dense fog, ferry traffic has been stopped at Daulatdia in Rajbari and Paturia in Manikganj, the gateway to the south-western part of the country. As the ferry was stopped for a long time, several vehicles were waiting for the river bank at Daulatdia.
On Friday (December 30) from 1:00 p.m., the ghat authorities stopped the ferry service to avoid boating accidents when the density of fog increased on the river. Few ferries with passengers and vehicles got stuck in the middle of the river as nothing could be seen in the fog. As a result, the drivers and passengers of the vehicles have suffered greatly in the severe winter.
According to the source of the ghat authority, the ferry movement on the Daulatdia-Paturia waterway has been stopped due to thick fog like the tenth day of the season. Due to dense fog, the marking lights on the river course are obscured. So ferry traffic is stopped to avoid the risk of accidents.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Daulatdia Ghat Branch Manager (Trade) Md. Salahuddin said that the ferry service has been stopped since 1:00 p.m. on Friday due to dense fog. Once the fog clears, ferry traffic will resume on this waterway. He also said that currently 11 small and big ferries are plying on this route.
