Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of lives of many people including women and children due to the collapse of the Machu river suspension bridge during Diwali festival in Gujarat, India.
In a condolence message written to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, “I am on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh and I myself express my deepest condolences to the Government and people of India for this heart-breaking tragedy.”
According to the press wing of the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina also said, “We appreciate the rescue operations undertaken by the Indian government after the incident.”
Sheikh Hasina wished peace to the souls of the deceased and speedy recovery of the injured.
At the same time, he said, I hope that the bereaved families will find strength to overcome this irreparable loss.
Sheikh Hasina reiterated that we are expressing solidarity with the government and people of India in this difficult time.
