Metrorail is the new horizon of Bangladesh-Japan relations

Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country’s first and much awaited metro rail. Ambassador of Japan Iwama Kiminori, one of the partners of this project, spoke at the opening ceremony. He said that this moment of metro rail is a turning point for Japan-Bangladesh relations. It will usher in new horizons in the relations between the two countries.

At the beginning of the speech, Ambassador Iwama Kiminori greeted the crowd and said, “Good afternoon.” At this time, the guests present at the gathering welcomed him with applause.

Iwama Kiminori thanked and congratulated all the people of the country including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of unveiling the plaque of Metrorail. Expressing his determination to strengthen the relationship with Bangladesh, he said that this is one of the biggest projects in Bangladesh.

Incidentally, Japan was involved in the construction of the Metrorail from the beginning. The total cost of this project is 33 thousand 472 crores. Out of this, 13 thousand 753 crores are being given from government funds. Apart from this, a loan of Tk 19,718 crore has been taken, which is coming from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
