Dhaka Bureau: The Appellate Division has commented that no political party has complied with the condition of keeping 33 percent women quota.
The Supreme Court made such a comment during the hearing of Nazmul Huda’s Trinamool BNP registration case on Sunday (December 18) morning.
The Appellate Division said that the Election Commission could not comply with the conditions despite repeated notices. At that time, the Appellate Division asked the Election Commission why EC does not want to register new political parties. Where is the problem to give new team?
At this time, the EC said that the parties came to register with strange names. I mean no conditions. Later, the Appellate Division ordered the registration of Nazmul Huda’s party Trinamool BNP. The order of the High Court was upheld.
Advocate Shah Manjurul Haque heard on behalf of Nazmul Huda in the court. Lawyer Mohammad Yashin appeared for the EC.
Advocate Shah Manjurul Haque confirmed the order. He said that the High Court had ordered Trinamool BNP to register. The Election Commission left to appeal against this judgment of the High Court. Today, the Appellate Division upheld the judgment of the High Court by dismissing the EC’s leave to appeal. As a result Trinamool BNP will have to register.
Earlier on November 4, 2018, the High Court ordered the Trinamool BNP under the leadership of Nazmul Hooda to register as a political party. Judge Tariq Ul Hakim and Justice Md. announced the rule issued in this regard. Suhrawardy High Court bench gave the verdict. The High Court took the opinion of former Attorney General AF Hasan Arif, former Additional Attorney General MK Rahman and lawyer Shahdin Malik as amicus curiae in the hearing of this rule.
The Election Commission rejected Trinamool BNP’s application for registration on June 14 that year. Nazmul Huda challenged this decision in the High Court.
