80 new teams seek EC registration

Dhaka Bureau: 80 new parties have applied for registration with the Election Commission (EC) to participate in the National Assembly elections. EC Joint Secretary (Director of Public Relations) SM Asaduzzaman Arju gave this information on the last day of application submission yesterday. BJP, Trinamool Congress have also applied for registration. At the same time political parties have applied various names such as Mushkil League, Moral Samaj, Bekar Samaj, Nakful, Hindu League.

EC officials said the law calls for applications for registration of new parties before every parliamentary election. Accordingly, the organization called the parties on May 26 and fixed the time till August 29. Later, the EC extended the time by two more months based on the application of many.

Regarding the registration of the new party, the Election Commissioner said. Alamgir said, maybe the commission will take the file to the secretariat tomorrow. Then they will check. Then we will give it to us if we think more verification is needed after looking at the documents then that will be done. And if 100% of the conditions are fulfilled, you will get registration. Same condition for all parties. When asked when it will be completed, he said, we have been told that the registration process will be completed in May. At the end of May, those who get the registration will be given, and those who don’t get it will be informed that they have not been given the registration for not fulfilling any conditions.

The Awal Commission is planning the action plan for the twelfth poll in December or January next year. As a result, even if you get the registration, you will get seven to eight months to introduce yourself to the voters before the 12th vote. There are currently 39 EC registered political parties.

Before the last 11th parliamentary elections, EC applied for registration of 76 parties to KM Nurul Huda Commission, but no party was registered. Interested parties may not pass the vetting test even if they fulfill the conditions. However, after the polls, two parties got registered by the court order. Nationalist Democratic Movement – NDM and Bangladesh Congress.

During the military-backed caretaker government. The commission headed by ATM Shamsul Huda-registered parties for the first time in the country in 2008. At that time 117 parties applied. After verification, 39 teams got registration. In total, the EC has registered a total of 44 teams in the last 14 years. Among them, the registration of five parties was also canceled due to failure to fulfill the conditions and on the order of the court. As a result, there are currently 39 political parties registered with the EC.
