Own Correspondent: Education is not just a competition to get a certificate, nor is it the sole purpose for a career. The primary thing we gain through education, especially higher education, is our psychological development. This requires psychological change, moral change and development of outlook. If these three characteristics do not come at the end of our long education, then we have to assume that education was really in vain. Deputy Minister of Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, MP said these things in the presidential address at the third convocation ceremony of Premier University at the Navy Convention Center in the city today Sunday (October 30).
He said, “Our dedication to all the graduates who are present at today’s convocation is that we will continue to learn lifelong learning even after a long academic career. Our current key philosophy of education is Life Long Learning and Learning How to Learn. Many have got employment because they got the university certificate. Those who are working, they have to learn a lot in the development of their work, development of profession, development of scholarship.
Deputy Minister of Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury said, there will be a request for the graduates that they should acquire the skills to complete the institutional education and the mentality of taking various types of training related to the scholarship. Otherwise, whatever profession we take up, whatever profession we take up, it will be difficult to live and accomplish work. Bangabandhu’s daughter Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced for revolutionary changes in higher education, we are already going to implement her specific policies. We implement this policy through the Accreditation Council and the University Grants Commission.
The Deputy Minister of Education also said that higher education requires not only outcome based curriculum but also uniform education. He also highlighted the need for language skills and learning different languages. He also said that every university should have a quality control cell. This is our election promise. To establish a knowledge-based economy, the outline (Delta outline) given by Bangabandhu-daughter leader Sheikh Hasina to improve the quality of basic education and health, has been appreciated worldwide. Graduates are required to participate in the implementation of this framework.
The convocation speaker was India’s eminent educationist and writer, former Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, Professor Dr. Holy government.
Internationally renowned sociologist, Ekushe Medalist and Vice-Chancellor of Premier University Professor Dr. Anupam Sen.
Bangladesh Accreditation Council Chairman Professor Dr. was the special guest. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, member of UGC Professor Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain, Professor Dr. Biswajit Chand and Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher. Besides, Premier University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Kazi Shamim Sultana and Treasurer Professor AKM Tafzal Haque.
Professor Dr. The holy government said, do we only learn in schools and colleges? Does our education begin at a certain age, in a house designated by the state or society, to people of a certain livelihood? As we all know, it doesn’t. I have studied a little in linguistics, I know that when the baby is in his mother’s stomach at seven months, he can distinguish the tone of his mother’s voice from the voice of others. That may be his first lesson. His intense education started from birth. One is social physical education, which separates the mother from everyone else, as well as others. Eighteen weeks after that, his language learning began, another difficult pursuit. But amazingly, within three and a half years he began to speak the language fluently, and within ten years had mastered its grammar.
He said, Chomsky called it one of the most difficult intellectual achievements of man, i.e. education, making it childish without knowing it. That is, he does not understand what he is learning. But later we see how hard we have to learn a new language. After that we learn at home, mother is our first teacher. Then many teachers gather around, they deliver us to society-specific teachers in schools-college-universities, those teachers make us cross the sea of examination. After that comes this convocation. After the convocation, we again become students of the open university of the world. There are no textbooks, no reference books, a huge classroom, and tons of tests. I hope you pass all the exams of life like university exams with ease, brighten the faces of your parents and teachers. Enrich the society by achieving success in your work.
Premier University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Anupam Sen says, a child goes through various stages since birth. You were in school and college, then you joined university. Now you have completed your university life and reached convocation. This day is a day of pride and joy for students. No one forgets this day. He pointed out, through convocation, graduates enter a vast field of life.
Referring to ‘Today’s world based on knowledge’, he said, the country which is progressing more in the field of education, that country is coming forward in the role of leadership in the world. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a very visionary world-leader. After assuming the power of the independent Bangladesh state, he also felt that if Bangladesh is to move forward, it must move forward in a knowledge-rich manner. So he gave utmost importance to education. For this reason, Premier University was also established by former mayor and humanist political leader ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury with the aim of making Bangladesh knowledge-rich.
He also said that around 1550 AD only 5 percent of people in Europe could sign. Around 1750 AD this number increased enormously in Holland, England, France and Germany. In these countries it rises to 35 to 45 percent. In Europe, the more educated the country is, the more economically advanced the country is. The newly established universities in these countries have served as the main medium for the spread of knowledge and economic progress.
Chairman of Bangladesh Accreditation Council Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed said, people have intelligence and innovative ability. People can plan, think forward. Because of this people can fulfill their dreams. Today’s graduates also have many dreams. If they work efficiently, they can definitely achieve their dreams.
He said, in the light of the modern education system, Bangladesh is now trying to coordinate the accountability system at the level of higher education. Bangladesh Accreditation Council monitors what has already been taught and what has been taught, how much progress has been made from one class to the next, whether the teacher-student relationship is logical and properly observed, each center has become a university. Of course, Premier University Govt is a strong and noble institution participating in this effort, and since its founder was a scholarly philanthropic politicalpersonality Alhaj ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, I believe that the progress of Premier University will be achieved in a modern way.
UGC Member Professor Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain said, the world is now invincible in favor of Bangladesh. Students should understand this. No one can claim Bangladesh. Out of the box thinking, new ideas and technologies should be embraced. Bangabandhu’s philosophy should be accepted. Only then we will get innovative Bangladesh. Students have to work to implement the outline given by the Prime Minister for the development of Bangladesh.
UGC Member Professor Dr. Biswajit Chand said that education is a lifelong process. Graduates should set goals and aspire to grow. To become skilled manpower. Skilled manpower is very necessary to move the country forward. Premier universities continue to play an important role in creating skilled manpower. Finance and technology will be of no use if skilled manpower is not created. He urged the graduates to be motivated by non-communal spirit, honesty and patriotism.
Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher said that the university is the center of knowledge creation, knowledge distribution and knowledge preservation. It is my expectation that teachers and students will take the education system to a higher standard by being inspired by patriotic education. He urged the graduates of the Premier University to play a role in implementing the spirit of the liberation war and facing the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution.
Members of Premier University’s Board of Trustees, Syndicate Members, Academic Council Members, Finance Committee Members, Disciplinary Committee Members, All Deans, Registrars, All Departmental Chairmen, Teachers-Teachers, Officials-Employees and local-national level dignitaries were present in the event.
