Along with Awami League leaders, party general secretary Obaidul Quader paid tribute to the martyred intellectuals.
After paying tributes at the Martyr Intellectuals Memorial on Wednesday (December 14) morning, Quader said, the defeated forces of 1971 have become active again, they want to take revenge. The forces of the liberation war should unite and defeat this conspiracy.
He said that the program that BNP had held on December 10, 1971, was the day in which Pakistan’s invading forces had planned the killing of intellectuals. Some progress has been made in bringing back fugitives abroad involved in intellectual assassinations. The government is keen on this, but there are also legal complications.
Earlier, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to the best children of the nation at the Martyr Intellectual Memorial in Mirpur.
It should be noted that on December 14, 1971, just two days before the final victory of the country’s independence, the Pakistani invading forces killed prominent intellectuals of the country. Since then, this day is being celebrated as Martyr Intellectual Day in their memory.
