Dhaka Bureau: Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Doctor Shafiqur Rahman has been detained by his party. They said that the police arrested him from Bashundhara residential area of the capital on Tuesday (December 13) around 4 am.
When several police officials were contacted to inquire about this, none of them agreed to speak. It is known that he was taken to the police office on Mintu Road. It is yet to be confirmed on what charge or in which case he has been arrested.
Shafiqur Rahman took oath as Amir of Jamaat three years ago. At an auditorium in the capital, the party’s Chief Election Commissioner ATM Machum administered the oath to him. Shafiqur Rahman’s house is in Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar. He passed MBBS from Sylhet Medical College. He was once the president of Sylhet city branch of Chhatrashibir.
Earlier on November 9, the police arrested Jamaat Amir’s son Rafat Sadiq Saifullah on charges of militant involvement.
