Dhaka Bureau: Election Commissioner (EC) said that the Commission will not wait 90 days to elect the vacant seats due to the resignation of BNP MPs, but the decision will be announced on Thursday. Alamgir. On Monday (December 12), he told reporters at his office in Agargaon’s election building.
He said that the election commission secretariat has received the gazette declaring the seats vacant by the resigned members of parliament of BNP. The next procedure is that we will sit in the meeting. In the meeting we will decide when the election will be held and the schedule will be announced.
When asked about the rule of election within 90 days of the seat becoming vacant, he said, Maximum (maximum) 90 days. We will give the schedule very soon inshallah. Since it has to be done within 90 days. The Chief Election Commissioner and another Election Commissioner are out of Dhaka today. Will stay on Tuesday. Maybe he will come tomorrow. Then on Thursday we may have an informal meeting. I may give the minimum time that is required. We will not wait 90 days. As the next general election is a little over a year away. As such, I will give it before 90 days.
As the national election is coming up, he said that all elections should be held within 90 days. But a minimum time has to be given. Because there is a time for submitting nominations, there is a time for selection, there is a time for withdrawal, there is a time for campaigning. It takes 40 to 45 days for this. The date will be announced by this time.
He said, we may have an informal meeting on Thursday. There may be decisions or file putups through documents. Then there will be no need for further meetings.
In response to a question whether the resignation of seven members of parliament before the national elections is creating additional pressure, he said, No, we are not feeling any pressure. Our job is to be a referee. We will keep the field ready, the gallery ready. I will keep everything ready, the players will come to play.
In response to another question from the journalists, he said that the responsibility lies with those who organize it until they come to the field. Government and politicians. Election Commission has no role in this matter. We will build a field, build a gallery.
You just keep the field ready whether the players come or not? When asked, he said, the players will definitely come. Not all players can come. Those who do not have preparation may not come. There are 39 registered political parties. It cannot be said that all the parties will make the election.
When asked whether there will be dissatisfaction if everyone does not turn up for the election, he said, we will see that most of the political parties or active political parties who are there will actually say that the election was a little better.
