Dhaka Bureau: They announced their resignation from the parliament at the departmental mass meeting of BNP at Golapbagh in the capital on Saturday. BNP members of parliament said that they have decided to resign from the parliament after talking to the top leaders of the party.
BNP’s seven MPs in the 350-seat parliament are Ukil Abdus Sattar, Harun-Or Rashid, GM Siraj, Aminul Islam, Zahidur Rahman, Mosharraf Hossain and Rumin Farhana.
Barrister Rumin Farhana, Member of Parliament of BNP in the reserved seat for women, announced her resignation and said in the rally, “We have already sent the resignation letter to the Speaker by e-mail. I will personally go to the Parliament today and submit my resignation letter.
He said, we will not be represented in this illegal parliament. The people demand that I will play a role in the struggle to restore democracy from the streets.
GM Siraj confirmed the resignation of the MPO. Party leaders said that Haroon Or Rashid resigned in an e-mail as he was out of the country.
Earlier, several leaders of BNP told the media that along with the simultaneous anti-government movement on the streets, BNP is seriously considering the resignation of BNP parliamentarians from parliament. The policy makers of the party held meetings on this issue. It was also discussed in the standing committee meeting. Most of the top leaders opined that the MPs should resign.
The BNP leaders think that they are demanding the dissolution of the parliament, and the MPs are in the parliament, it is contradictory. So BNP MPs have decided to resign from Parliament.
BNP MPs were ready to resign after receiving the party’s signal. They announced their resignation today soon after receiving orders from the High Command.
