Dhaka Bureau: BNP has announced a protest program across the country on Thursday (December 8) in connection with the clash in front of the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan of the capital.
The announcement was made after the meeting of the party’s standing committee at party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office on Wednesday (December 7) night.
BNP said in a press release that the meeting discussed the incident of Wednesday, condemned the police attack and demanded the immediate release of the detained leaders and workers.
Police clashed with BNP leaders and workers in Nayapaltan around 3 pm on Wednesday. So far one death has been reported in the clash.
At around 4:30 pm, the police raided the central office of BNP. At this time, more than three hundred leaders and activists were arrested inside and outside the office. Among those detained are senior joint general secretary of the party Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, convenor of Dhaka Metropolitan North Aman Ullah Aman, publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anyi, personal assistant of Khaleda Zia Shimul Biswas, convenor of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Abdus Salam, joint general secretary of the party Khairul Kabir Khokon.
Later Mirza Fakhrul came in front of the office. At first he was prevented from entering the office, but later he was allowed to go. However, Mirza Fakhrul did not enter there and took a position in front of the office. He left the place around 8 pm.
