The Crime Desk: The depression formed in the northwest Bay of Bengal has further intensified and turned into a deep depression. It is currently located 170 kilometers southwest of the Mongla seaport. The Meteorological Department said that it may hit the coast of Bangladesh and West Bengal in India by the afternoon.
Meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallick said that the depression is located at 21.4° north latitude and 88.5° east longitude. It is located 375 kilometers west-southwest of Chittagong port, 385 kilometers west of Cox’s Bazar, 170 kilometers from Mongla, and 210 kilometers from Payra seaport.
The continuous wind speed within 48 kilometers of the deep depression center is 50 kilometers per hour, which can reach 60 kilometers in the form of gusts or squalls. As a result, the sea is now quite rough.
The Special Weather Bulletin (Notice-2) has informed us that this deep depression is likely to move northwards and cross the Sagar Island of India and the Khepupara coast of Bangladesh by this afternoon. Due to this, there is a possibility of gusty winds blowing over the coastal areas of the North Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh.
In this situation, the seaports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been asked to display local warning signal number 3. At the same time, all fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal have been asked to stay in safe shelter until further orders.
The Meteorological Department has urged the public to be alert and requested the residents of the coastal areas to follow the instructions of the Disaster Management Agency.
