City Reporter: A team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two people in the murder of Chittagong’s controversial terrorist Ali Akbar, alias Dhakaiya Akbar.
They were arrested at a community center located in the city’s Panchlaish police station area around 12 midnight on Monday (May 26).
The arrested are Osman Ali Segun and Md. Alvin. Among them, Osman Ali is a fugitive abroad and the brother of Sajjad Ali, alias Boro Sajjad, an accused in the Chittagong Eight Murder case. Alvin is their nephew.
No police or RAB official has officially acknowledged the arrest. However, an RAB official confirmed the matter to the reporter.
It is learned that on Friday (May 23) at around 8 pm, miscreants shot Dhakaiya Akbar while he was chatting in front of shop number 28 of West Point in the Patenga Seaside area of the city. Later, on Sunday (May 25) at around 8 am, he died while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital.
It is learned that Dhakaiya Akbar was a follower of Baro Sajjad. He had a dispute with Guru Sajjad a few years ago for various reasons. He had a distance with Akbar and Chhota Sajjad, who is currently in prison and is a follower of Baro Sajjad. He used to threaten Akbar with seeing Chhota Sajjad’s wife, Tamanna Sharmin, through social media. Akbar also used to make videos of Chhota Sajjad and Tamanna.
Meanwhile, a case was registered at Patenga Police Station in the city on Monday in connection with Akbar’s murder. Akbar’s wife, Rupali Begum, filed the case naming 11 people as the plaintiff. In addition, 2 to 3 people have been named as unidentified accused in the case.
Osman and Alvin, who were arrested on Monday, are named as accused in the case. Besides, the remaining 9 accused are Mubarak Hossain Emon (22), Raihan (35), Khorshed (45), Mohammad (35), Borhan (27), Md. Hazrat Ali (35), Md. Helal (29), Md. Moinuddin alias Shahabuddin Sabu (33), and Joynal Abedin Roni (30).
