The Crime Desk: Local Government and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan’s former Assistant Private Secretary (APS) Md. Moazzem Hossain has been banned from traveling abroad, and his National Identity Card (NID) has been blocked.
The ACC’s Public Relations Office said that an order was issued in this regard by the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court on Saturday (May 24).
According to the ACC’s application, former APS Md. Moazzem Hossain is under investigation for amassing hundreds of crores of taka of illegal wealth through various irregularities and corruption, including abuse of power, lobbying, extortion, and tender trading. It is learned from reliable sources that the person concerned in the complaint may flee the country. It is necessary to block his travel abroad and block his NID for the sake of a fair investigation of the complaint. After such an application, he was banned from traveling abroad and ordered to block his NID.
Earlier, on May 22, the ACC questioned him. After the interrogation, he claimed that the allegations were baseless and that a party was spreading lies targeting students. A team led by ACC Deputy Assistant Director Minu Akhter Sumi questioned him.
Moazzem is accused of abusing his power while he was the advisor’s APS and amassing hundreds of crores of taka through various irregularities, including lobbying and tender trading.
On April 22, Moazzem Hossain, the advisor to the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Local Government, resigned. On April 25, he requested the ACC to investigate various allegations against his former Assistant Private Secretary (APS), Moazzem Hossain, Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan told the media.
On April 27, the Youth Rights Council came to the ACC demanding that the APS and PO of the advisors be investigated for corruption. As part of the ‘March to ACC’ program, the organization’s leaders and activists came to the ACC from the National Press Club. Later, a delegation from the party submitted a memorandum to the ACC.
On the other hand, on Wednesday (May 21), the ACC interrogated Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum’s former personal officer (PO) and student representative Tuhin Farabi, personal officer Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, and former joint member secretary of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) ABM Gazi Salauddin Ahmed Tanvir. After the interrogation, Mahmudul and Tanvir claimed to the media that the allegations against them were false and baseless.
