The Crime Desk: President Abdul Hamid of the Awami League government has left the country, 9 months after the fall of the student-public uprising. It has been confirmed by the Dhaka Post that he left the country on a Thai Airways flight at 3:05 am on Wednesday.
A source responsible for Shahjalal International Airport confirmed his departure.
The source said that Abdul Hamid left Dhaka for Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG 340 at 3:05 am.
The source said that Abdul Hamid went to Shahjalal International Airport around 11 pm last night. After going there, he received the green signal to leave the country after completing the necessary verification at immigration.
A senior officer of the Immigration Department of the Special Branch (SB) of the police told the Dhaka Post, “I have come to know this morning that former President Abdul Hamid has left the country.
There was a murder case against him. Did the SB give clearance despite knowing this? When asked, he said, We do not know that he is the accused in any murder case. And it is not like that he cannot be given clearance just because there is a murder case. It will require a court order. There was no court ban on his arrest or leaving the country.
He also said that according to Articles 34 and 102 of the Constitution, no Bangladeshi citizen can be prevented from traveling. Unless there is a specific court ban. We have not received any ban order in this regard. There was no request or application from the police to detain or arrest him in any case.
There is information that there is at least one murder case against Abdul Hamid. This case was filed against him at Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station on January 14. The case also includes the names of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Saima Wazed Putul, and Obaidul Quader.
Before the case against Abdul Hamid on January 14, about fifty cases were filed in Kishoreganj district accusing Awami League leaders. However, Abdul Hamid was not named as a defendant in any of those cases.
