The Crime Desk: Police Week 2025 is beginning today. The main theme of this three-day Police Week is ‘My Police, My Country, Bangladesh Without Discrimination.’
On Tuesday (April 29), at 10:30 am, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus will inaugurate the Police Week by delivering a speech to the police members at the Rajarbagh Police Lines ground. After that, he will present medals to the meritorious police members.
Police officials told the media that various activities have started within the force around Police Week.
It is learned that on this occasion, the challenges of their respective units will be presented in presentations by various units. In addition, the police have taken up a set of plans, including increasing logistical support and research, to restore public confidence in the police.
On the occasion of Police Week, SB will be held at the Police Auditorium on Wednesday morning (April 30): CID at 9:15 am, RAB at 10 am, a meeting of advisors and secretaries of various ministries with police officers, and presentations of Tourist Police, PBI, and Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU).
The next day, on May 1, the IG badge presentation and conference of senior police officers and exchange of views with different classes of citizens, the annual general meeting of the Police Service Association and Police Officers Mess, the reunion of current police officers with retired and working police officers, and dinner will be held.
Then, on May 2, the annual Punak rally and Anand Mela and the award distribution and closing of the Police Women’s Welfare Association stall will be held.
According to sources at the police headquarters, during this Police Week, the police will demand the formation of an independent police commission and the formation of a complaint cell for the public. Apart from this, six demands will be raised, including a complaint resolution committee for the police, a compensation allowance equal to one month’s basic salary, and the formation of an independent cyber unit.
The six demands that the police will present
1. Form an independent police commission and form a complaint cell for the public and a complaint resolution committee for the police.
2. Compensation allowance equal to one month’s basic salary.
3. Form an independent cyber unit.
4. Increase manpower in the police divisional hospital and establish a medical college with the provision of modern medical equipment.
5. Provide supernumerary promotions (from constable to inspector) at the time of retirement after serving in the same position for a long time.
6. Provide financial allocation in favor of the police to facilitate burial/cremation of dead bodies.
