Mother hacks two children to death in Tongi: Police

The Crime Desk: In Tongi, Gazipur, Maliha Akhter (6) and Md. Abdullah (4) were hacked to death by their mother, Saleha Begum, with a knife in their house. Police said that she herself confessed to the murder on Friday (April 18) at midnight. She did not give any information about the reason or motive for killing the children.

Additional Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Zahid Hasan confirmed the matter on Saturday (April 19).

Earlier, police recovered the bodies of two children from a flat in the Arichpur Jamaibazar area of ​​Tongi, Gazipur, on Friday evening. A knife with a bloody head was recovered from the house at that time.

The father of the deceased Maliha Akhter and Md. Abdullah is Abdul Baten Mia. He is a resident of the Tatuakandi area of ​​Bancharampur police station in Brahmanbaria. She and her family live in a flat on the third floor of an eight-story building called Setu Villa in the Jamaibazar area of ​​Arichpur, Tongi.

Police said that there are several CCTV cameras around the house where the family used to live in Arichpur, Tongi. The footage from these cameras showed that no one except her mother, Saleha Begum, was seen moving around in their house or flat during the time the incident took place (Friday evening). After the incident, Saleh Begum herself called her two brothers-in-law from the house next door. As her speech was incoherent, she was arrested in the evening and taken into police custody. At that time, the police became more suspicious when they saw a fresh cut on her hand. At midnight, the woman confessed to killing her two children. She did not give any information about why or for what reason she killed the children.

Police also said that Saleha Begum’s relatives said that she was suffering from migraines. No information was available about whether she had any mental problems. The matter can be clarified more by talking to doctors. The police are now investigating.

According to sources from the locals and relatives of the deceased, A. Baten Mia lives with his family in a flat on the third floor of an 8-story building called Setu Villa in the Jamaibazar area of ​​Arichpur, Tongi. The eldest daughter of the family’s three children was at her grandmother’s house at the time of the incident. On Friday afternoon, the children’s father, mother, and grandmother, who were at home, had lunch together. Then the mother, Saleha Begum, fell asleep in a room of the flat. The grandmother went to the flat on the upper floor, and the father left the children in the house and went out. After some time, the mother found the door of the house open and the children lying on the floor in a state of blood. Hearing her screams, the grandmother came down from the upper floor and informed her son. Later, hearing her screams, the people around came forward and informed the police. The police recovered the bodies of the two children and sent them to the morgue of Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.

Additional Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Zahid Hasan said, “An investigation is underway into the incident. We are trying to find out why or for what reason he killed his two children. Legal action is in process in this incident.”
