The Crime Desk: Two assistants of a truck driver were killed when another truck rammed into the back of a truck parked on the road in Begumganj, Noakhali. The accident occurred on the Noakhali-Lakshmipur road near Begumganj police station at around 4 am on Wednesday (April 16). The driver of one of the trucks was injured in the accident.
The two deceased were identified as Mohammad Sajeeb (18) and Mohammad Shakib (17). They are residents of the Kendurbagh area of Begumganj upazila.
According to the Highway Police and local sources, a sand truck was parked on the road approximately 300 yards west of the Begumganj police station. At around 4 am, another truck coming from behind hit the parked truck. The front part of the truck was twisted. The two assistants sitting in the front cabin of the truck that was hit were killed on the spot. The driver of the truck that was hit was also injured. However, he fled immediately after the accident.
Upon receiving the information, the Chandraganj Highway Police Station in Lakshmipur recovered the bodies of the two deceased persons and seized the two trucks involved in the accident.
Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of Chandraganj Highway Police Station in Lakshmipur, told the media that the accident occurred when a speeding truck coming from behind hit a stationary truck. Two assistants of the truck driver who hit the truck were killed on the spot. Further legal action will be taken in view of the complaints of the families of the deceased persons.
