Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Three people, including the imam of a local mosque, were killed in a clash between two sides over a land dispute in the Kutupalong area of Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar. The incident took place on Sunday morning (April 6).
The deceased are the local mosque imam, Maulana Abdullah Al Mamun; his cousin Abdul Mannan; and cousin Shahina Begum. Locals said that Maulana Abdullah Al Mamun was active in Jamaat-e-Islami politics.
According to local sources, Abdul Mannan and Shahina Akhtar are siblings. They are cousins of Abdullah Al Manun. This time Shahina came to visit her brother’s house for Eid. On Sunday morning, a scuffle broke out during an argument with Mamun-Mannan over the land issue. The two sides got into a clash due to this incident. Later, one side attacked the other with indigenous weapons. Three people were killed and several others were injured in the clash.
Local UP member Engineer Helal Uddin said that there was a dispute between the two sides over land. Due to this dispute, a clash broke out between them on Sunday morning over the construction of a boundary wall. Three people were killed in this. Such an incident has never happened in the past in this area. The incident is very sad.
Ukhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arif Hossain said that three people were killed in the clash over land. Police forces have been sent to the spot. Details will be announced after the investigation.
