The Crime Desk: The court has ordered the framing of charges against temporarily suspended Assistant Commissioner Tapsi Tabassum Urmi in a defamation case filed for making adverse comments about martyr Abu Sayeed and other martyrs in the anti-discrimination movement. With this, her formal trial in the case has begun.
On Tuesday (February 4), the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate, Md. The court rejected the application for exemption of Sefatullah and issued this order. In addition, the court fixed February 4 for the next hearing. Earlier, the court granted her bail in the case on January 26.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Advocate Khademul Islam, confirmed this information.
Earlier, on January 26, the case was for the hearing of the framing of charges in the same court. On that day, Tapsi Tabassum Urmi appeared in the court and surrendered and applied for bail. At the same time, her lawyer requested to postpone the hearing. The court granted the time request and fixed February 4 for the hearing. At the same time, Tapsi Tabassum was granted bail.
Earlier, on October 8 last year, Abu Hanif, a member of the People’s Rights Council and media coordinator, filed a case in the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka. After recording the plaintiff’s statement on that day, the court issued a summons to the accused to appear in court by November 28.
The application for the case states that on October 5, the accused, Urmi, wrote a derogatory statement on Facebook against not only Shaheed Abu Sayeed, but also the government established through the student-mass movement and the head of the government, Nobel laureate Chief Advisor Mr. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, despite holding a responsible position in the government. Through this, a head of government formed in accordance with the constitution based on the reference of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has been discredited, and fear has been created in the public mind by threatening to overthrow the government.
