The Crime Desk: Recently, there have been several incidents of blocking various recreational activities for women in the country. The interim government has expressed deep concern over such incidents.
This concern was expressed in a statement sent by the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing on Thursday (January 30) afternoon.
Recently, there have been incidents of blocking of women’s football matches in two places in the country. Condemning the incident, the statement said that the government condemns the actions of those who recently blocked the conduct of two women’s football matches. Women are citizens of Bangladesh and enjoy human and civil rights equally like men. The interim government is trying its best to ensure the full rights of Bangladeshi citizens.
Stating that anyone violating the rights of women will be subject to appropriate measures under the prevailing laws of the country, the statement said that the interim government will take strict action against any attempt to discriminate against or oppress citizens of any group.
The statement also said that the Chief Advisor’s office has already directed the Dinajpur and Joypurhat district administrations to take necessary steps to resume the suspended football matches.
The district administrators said that they had recently organized women’s football, cricket, and kabaddi matches in their districts. Hundreds of people enjoyed the matches, and people from all sections of their districts appreciated the arrangements.
The statement said that in the past month, the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus had organized one of the largest youth festivals in the country, which included various events for women players in hundreds of rural districts and upazila towns. Thousands of girls also participated in football, cricket, and kabaddi matches in many remote rural districts.
