The Crime Desk: Babul Kazi (59), who was burnt in a gas lighter explosion in the capital’s Banani, has died (Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un). He died while undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute at around 5:30 pm on Sunday (January 19). He is the grandson of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Shaon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the emergency department of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, confirmed Babul Kazi’s death. He said that Babul Kazi, who was burnt in a gas lighter explosion in the washroom, died on life support in the ICU while undergoing treatment. 74 percent of his body was burned.
Earlier, Babul Kazi was burnt in a gas lighter explosion in the washroom at his Banani residence around 5 am on Saturday. Later, he was admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in a critical condition. When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to life support. A 16-member medical board was formed for his treatment.
