The Crime Desk: A grandmother and granddaughter were killed in front of their grandfather when a private car hit them in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. The accident occurred on Sunday (December 29) at around 6 pm. The deceased were identified as Asia Begum (60) and her granddaughter Arthi (7).
Arthi’s father, Babul Hossain Rakib, said, “I received news on Sunday evening that my father-in-law and two daughters were injured in the accident. When I went to the scene, I found my mother-in-law dead on the spot. The two daughters and father-in-law were rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital, where the doctor declared the younger daughter, Arthi, dead.”
He said that they live in a rented house with their family in the Meghna Bhaberchar area. Yesterday afternoon, the father-in-law and his children were going to visit the Sonargaon Museum in an autorickshaw. The casualty occurred when a private car hit an auto-rickshaw on the west side of the Sonargaon Meghna Bridge.
Mohammad Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, said, “The child’s body has been kept at the Dhaka Medical College Morgue for autopsy. Two of the injured are admitted. Their treatment is underway.”
