The Crime Desk: Postgraduate private trainee doctors are blocking Shahbagh intersection, demanding an increase in allowance. On Sunday (December 29) morning, they blocked the Shahbagh intersection.
The protesting doctors said, “We have been protesting on the streets for a long time. We have gone to every leading place but were forced to take to the streets without getting a solution. The contribution of doctors cannot be denied; doctors have served in hospitals day and night. We will unite; we will gather strength. Think about how to issue a notification soon. We are not anyone’s agents.”
On December 22, they also blocked the Shahbagh intersection, demanding an increase in allowance from 30,000 to 50,000. At that time, the government had announced an increase in the allowance of 5,000 taka.
The trainee doctors had set a deadline of December 21 to increase the allowance. It was announced that about 13,000 postgraduate private trainee doctors in the country would go on strike simultaneously if their demands were not met. But since the notification was not issued within the stipulated time, the trainee doctors started a protest on December 22. A section of them blockaded Shahbagh. Later, the government announced an increase in the allowance of trainee doctors from 25 thousand taka to 30 thousand taka. The trainee doctors rejected this decision and announced they would continue the protest.
