Cultivation of 8 crops together in one land in Joypurhat

Jaipurhat Representative: Farmers in Jaipurhat are benefiting financially by cultivating six crops simultaneously on the same land. Farmers have a smile of success by cultivating this intercrop, which plays a special role as a source of additional income in the family.

The District Agriculture Extension Department said that the Prime Minister’s announcement should not fall even an inch, the agriculture department is working to implement this announcement of the government. Under the supervision of the Department of Agriculture, intercropping has been done on 1,275 hectares of land in the district during Kharip season 2021-2022 (Kharip season from Chaitra to Bhadra month). The production target has been set at 45 thousand 687 metric tons of vegetables and other crops.

Farmer Hafizar Rahman of Kochkuri village of Sadar Upazila, a remote area of ​​the district, cultivated flowers and cabbage as intercrops with bananas on 66 percent of the land. Also there are chillies with eggplant, sesame seeds with chillies, dates, red shallots, kalmi, dal, puishak.

Neighbors Amena Begum and Mahmuda Begum said, seeing Hafizar Rahman, we are also cultivating various crops as intercrops. Earlier a crop was cultivated on the land. Now they are cultivating multiple crops with one crop as a source of additional income in the family. This is called intercropping.

Panchbibi Upazila Agriculture Officer. Lutfor Rahman said that there are about 550 hectares of land in this upazila for inter-cropping. Among them, corn with potatoes, sweet pumpkin with potatoes, onions with sugarcane, peppers with brinjal and red vegetables, kale, spinach, beans.

Akkelpur Upazila Agricultural Officer. Imran Hossain said, Akkelpur upazila has 85 hectares of sweet pumpkin with potatoes, 45 hectares of maize with potatoes and other crops in Akkelpur upazila.

Assistant Agricultural Extension Officer of Sadar Upazila Amal Chandra Mondal said that 130 bighas of land in Sadar Upazila are intercropped with maize and sweet pumpkin and onions with sugarcane. He also said that the government’s agricultural incentive program is working as a special helper in this regard.

Farmer Sagar Hossain of Pathuria area of ​​Bhadsa Union, Taslim Uddin, farmer of Durgadah area, Prafulla Chandra reported success in intercropping.

The executive director of the local Zaks Foundation. Nurul Amin said that the Pallikarma Sahajik Foundation is working to implement this declaration so that not even an inch of space should be left. As a part of this, women are being given financial and technical support including fertilizers and seeds at the rural level to grow various crops including vegetables on fallow land around the house.
