Dead bodies of seven rare turtles on Parki beach, emitting a foul smell

Anwara Correspondent: There has been a huge reaction among locals and tourists about the dead bodies of seven rare turtles on Parki beach. The dead bodies of turtles lying within 1 kilometer of the beach came to the attention of locals since last Sunday afternoon. After complaints from various quarters about the environmental disaster in the Parki beach area for a long time, local conscious circles have alleged that the turtles are dying due to the environmental disaster in the beach area.

Each turtle that died on the beach can weigh 25-35 kg. Local traders said that due to environmental pollution in the sea, the dead bodies of seven rare turtles were washed away by the tide and stuck on the beach. Several of the dead turtles lying on the char are rotting and emitting a foul smell. Due to which several turtles are being buried in the ground by local traders. Although several more turtle bodies are lying on the beach, the beach traders say that the local administration is not taking any action.

In this regard, Anwara Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Samaranjan Barua told reporters, “I am not aware of any case of turtle bodies floating on Parki Sea Beach before. However, these turtles can die for various reasons. Therefore, the exact cause of death can be known after observing and examining the bodies jointly with the Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Department. According to experts, turtles die after a certain age. In addition, turtles or other marine animals die due to poisoning due to fishing nets, trawlers, ship strikes, and environmental pollution in the sea. After complaints from various quarters about the environmental disaster in the Parki Beach area for a long time, there has been a widespread reaction in the conscious community about the death of turtles within a kilometer of the beach.

Although Anwara Upazila Executive Officer and Parki Beach Management Committee President Tahmina Akhter was contacted on her mobile phone in this regard, no statement was received as she did not answer the phone.
