City Reporter: Advisor to the Ministry of Shipping Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain said a master plan will be taken up for the overall development of the Marine Academy in the future. Many buildings here will have to be renovated. Bangladesh Marine Academy will be made to international standards.
He said these things as the chief guest at the graduation parade of the 58th batch of cadets of Bangladesh Marine Academy Chittagong at 10:30 am on Monday (December 23).
Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain said, We are talking to domestic and foreign shipping corporations so that our mariners have employment opportunities. In the meantime, our mariners are working in different countries and earning foreign currency and playing an important role in the country’s economy.
The naval advisor said 238 cadets of the 58th batch of the Marine Academy are going to set foot in the sea. A total of 238 cadets, 118 in the nautical branch and 120 in the engineering branch, have completed their education and training for two years. They will be trained and join domestic and foreign seagoing ships. These cadets will be able to earn foreign currency and contribute to our economy.
At this time, the naval advisor called on the mariners to go abroad and work with the country’s standards.
At the ceremony, Md. Minhaj Sadman was awarded the President’s Gold Medal for the highest achievement among the 58th batch cadets. In addition, Md. Ibn Faisal Tanvir Majumdar of the naval branch and Ifad Hasan Anik of the engineering branch, who scored the highest marks in the final examination this year, were awarded the silver medal of the Ministry of Shipping.
According to Marine Academy sources, about 5,600 cadets have been trained from this academy in the last 62 years since its establishment in 1962. They are working with a good reputation on various domestic and foreign ships. Not only that, but marine professionals also generate over three thousand crore taka in revenue annually in the country.
