The Crime Desk: The Election Commission (EC) has cancelled the contract with Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) regarding National Identity Card (NID) services due to breach of contract. In addition to severing ties, the organization has requested payment of the dues within the next 15 days.

ASM Humayun Kabir, Director General of the National Identity Registration Division of the Election Commission Secretariat, gave this information on Sunday (December 22).

The NID Director General said that the total number of government/private organizations receiving NID data verification services from the Election Commission is 183. Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) is one of them.

On October 4, 2022, the BCC signed a bilateral agreement with the Election Commission regarding data verification through registration. According to the terms of the agreement, the second party (BCC) cannot transfer, exchange, sell, or otherwise provide the information of the commission to any other person, entity, party, or institution. But BCC has violated it.

The NID DG said that when the BCC was asked for an explanation on September 3 of this year, the institution refrained from responding. Later, on October 6, it was asked to respond within three working days.

The response given was considered unsatisfactory by the Election Commission. In addition, the agreement was considered voidable by the Election Commission as the applicable fees/charges as per the agreement were not paid by BCC within the stipulated time.
