The Crime Desk: Advisor to the Ministry of Finance and Science and Technology Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said that the Rooppur nuclear power plant has been built in compliance with all international safety requirements. The government wants to start generating nuclear power in the first unit in March 2025 after receiving final approval from the International Atomic Energy Agency and completing the tests and inspections.
Advisor Salehuddin gave this information in response to a question from journalists after exchanging views with district government officials at the Pabna Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Friday (December 13) evening.
Earlier, the advisor toured the Rooppur project along with an expert team from the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Expressing satisfaction with the safety of Rooppur, the finance advisor told journalists that the project has been implemented in accordance with the latest methods of nuclear safety. We want to use its positive impact for the country as soon as possible.
Commenting on the increase in the project duration and cost as normal, the finance advisor said, “The increased duration is not much for a large project. There is scope for an agreement with Russia on the interest rate.”
Commenting that the previous government had destroyed the institutional structure of the state in 15 years, he instructed government officials to work with transparency and responsibility at the exchange of views.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Mokabbir Hossain, Pabna Deputy Commissioner Mofizul Haque, Superintendent of Police Mortaza Ali, and other government officials were present at the time.
